Living in Dali

Dali is a terrific place to relax for a while, learn Mandarin Chinese or even teach English.

Situated 2000m above sea level in the foothills of the Himalayas, Dali has a unique climate. Temperatures never exceed 30 ºC (86ºF) and snow is an event of such rarity that it warrants celebration (see Dali Climate). Nestled between the Cangshan mountains and Er Hai lake, the scenery is spectacular. The Locals who are used to mixing with people of different cultures over hundreds of years (Dali comprises a mix of Bai, Hui, Yi and Han peoples) are friendly towards foreigners and speak a neutral form of Mandarin. There is also a sizeable expat community in the area, great paths for cycling or hiking and a lively nightlife.

Dali has several Chinese language schools that can organise student visas for those wishing to study here.

Some schools can also offer working visas to teach English in Dali.

What are you waiting for? Come join the fun!
